Adoption Day in Ukraine: Care, Love, and Safety for Every Child
Today, Ukraine celebrates Adoption Day — a day that reminds us that every child deserves a family filled with care, love, and understanding.
In Zaporizhzhia region, the team of the NGO “Responsible Citizens” is implementing a component of the “Better Care” project, supported by UNICEF, in partnership with the Regional Child Services and Regional Social Services Center. Together, we work to ensure every child has a loving family and a safe environment to grow up in.
Our efforts focus on:
- Assisting in returning children without parental care, evacuated due to the war, to foster families in Ukraine, and supporting the placement of children from orphanages into family-based care.
- Supporting family-based care: 23 families, with 92 children, received psychosocial support, individual guidance, and material assistance for the children.
- Building the capacity of local specialists and parents: over 90 social service professionals underwent training on supporting and adapting children in foster families; 69 foster parents and guardians regularly receive supervision and training support; and 51 prospective guardians and adoptive parents completed their training.
This work is possible thanks to partnership and joint efforts. Only together can we create a Ukraine where no child is left without a family.
Today in Zaporizhzhia, we also participated in a themed event dedicated to Adoption Day.
On this day, we remind everyone again: the best environment for a child’s growth and development is a family.
