Teachers’ training in Kyiv: Addressing educational gaps caused by the war
A specialized training session for teachers took place in Kyiv, focusing on overcoming significant learning gaps among students caused by the war. Over the past year, the NGO Responsible Citizens has been developing tailored support programs for educators working to mitigate these educational losses. Thanks to a partnership with the Government of the Faroe Islands, 40 teachers from communities in the Dnipropetrovsk region attended this specialized training at the end of autumn.
This region has welcomed a large number of internally displaced people from frontline areas and continues to endure frequent shelling. As a result, students of all ages struggle to fully grasp the school curriculum, jeopardizing their chances of receiving a quality education and pursuing the career of their dreams in the future.
Why Does This Matter?
The educational losses caused by the war are multifaceted. Responsible Citizens has focused its efforts on sharing its unique expertise in addressing these challenges by equipping teachers with essential knowledge and tools.
“Our training programs are designed to thoroughly prepare teachers. We adapt curricula, refine teaching methods, and focus on support for children with special educational needs and disabilities. Additionally, we place great emphasis on the psycho-emotional resilience of teachers, providing strategies to combat burnout and discover new sources of motivation. These components are integral to our training,” explains Olena Bieloliptsieva, Head of Educational Programs at Responsible Citizens.
Together with our partners, we are taking critical steps to restore the educational environment in communities affected by the war. Our goal is not only to address educational losses but to create sustainable conditions for the development of both children and teachers.
This training was conducted as part of the project Enhancing the Resilience of the Education System in Eastern Ukraine, funded by the Government of the Faroe Islands and implemented by Responsible Citizens.
