Aid in frontline areas and support after displacement to safer communities should not compete with one another. Leaders of humanitarian organizations discussed this during a meeting with officials from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
“I was also an internally displaced person at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, so I understand what it is like to find yourself in a completely different, unfamiliar environment. That’s why I know how important it is to feel that you are not alone, that someone cares about you and wants to help,” says Olha, a case manager with the NGO Responsible Citizens.
After moving to Kharkiv region, Iryna’s family was settling into a new home, but the house was badly damaged in shelling. During this difficult period, Iryna’s family received humanitarian cash assistance through a programme implemented by the NGO Responsible Citizens in partnership with Acted as part of the Response Consortium, with financial support from the US government.
In 2014, in Donetsk, a team of young volunteers came together to help people who found themselves in difficult circumstances because of the war. That is how the story of the NGO Responsible Citizens began.
For the NGO Responsible Citizens, work in a community does not begin with a single event and does not end once a project has been completed. We build a long-term presence and working partnerships at the local level — with communities, government authorities at all levels, educational institutions, social services, and cultural and youth organizations.
