Psychological support for families with children: the experience of Zaporizhzhia

The Regional Forum “Every Day for Children” took place for the first time in Dnipro, bringing together over 250 participants — representatives of authorities, local governments, child protection services, international and civil society organizations, and law enforcement.

The Partnership and Cooperation Forum “Voices of Donetsk Region” has become an important platform for discussing these challenges, presenting the Network’s Roadmap, and developing joint solutions.

Despite constant shelling threats and a volatile security situation, eight mobile psychosocial support teams in Donetsk region provide daily assistance to children and their families. Specialists in psychology, speech therapy, and social work operate in communities where access to basic services is limited or entirely absent.

NGO Responsible Citizens, in partnership with UNICEF and with the support of the U.S. Government, is implementing the project “Strengthening Community Capacity to Provide Core Protection and Resilience Services in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia Regions”.

“We needed this psychological support because there were issues we didn’t know how to handle or resolve on our own,” Yulia admits. UNICEF’s support became a lifeline for the family during their toughest moments.

The work is carried out within the framework of the UNICEF Ukraine project “Strengthening Community Capacity to Deliver Essential Protection and Resilience Services in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions,” implemented by the NGO “Responsible Citizens” with the support of the Government of the United States of America

Rapid response to the consequences of shelling is one of the key areas of work of the project implemented by the NGO “Responsible Citizens” in partnership with Mercy Corps Ukraine with funding from the Government of the United Kingdom.
