Social Services Development Training Sessions Held for Communities in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
Representatives of communities from the Samarivskyi, Pavlohradskyi, and Dniprovskyi districts of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast took part in two training sessions dedicated to strengthening social services for families with children. The participants included community leaders and sectoral specialists responsible for organizing social support at the local level.
During the training, participants discussed how to ensure that social services are not only formally established in official documents but also effectively meet people’s needs and function in practice within their communities.
Particular attention was given to the practical aspects of introducing new social services. In particular, participants explored:
- where to begin when introducing a new social service;
- how to organize social services in line with current national approaches;
- how to identify the actual needs of families and plan support based on those needs;
- what funding opportunities are available to communities, including local budgets, social contracting, government subventions, and donor support;
- how to establish effective cooperation among social protection authorities, child protection services, educational institutions, and healthcare providers;
- why psychosocial support is an integral part of a comprehensive family support system and requires management-level decisions within the community.
Open discussions were an important part of the training sessions. Community representatives shared their experiences, discussed the challenges they face in their work, asked practical questions, and jointly explored effective solutions.
The development of high-quality social services begins with communities’ willingness to assess the needs of their residents, learn, and introduce modern approaches. These are the changes that make support more accessible to every family that needs it.
The training sessions were held as part of the UNICEF project “Protection Services for the Most Vulnerable Children and Parents (or Their Caregivers) in Communities of Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts,” implemented by the NGO Responsible Citizens with financial support from the Government of the United States and UNICEF.
