The NGO Responsible Citizens, in partnership with the Zaporizhzhia Regional Center for Social Services, within the UNICEF Ukraine project, conducted training for representatives of social services from communities in the Zaporizhzhia region on the topic of creating and developing family-based care.

In February 2026, Responsible Citizens NGO, in partnership with Acted and with the support of the US Government, launched a humanitarian cash assistance programme for families affected by the war in Kharkiv, Sumy, and Donetsk regions.

This decision is due to the unstable security and infrastructure situation in the communities of eastern Ukraine. Limited access to communication and the Internet, power outages, and difficult working conditions affect the ability of initiative groups to properly prepare and submit their project proposals.

In Zaporizhzhia region, the team of the NGO “Responsible Citizens” is implementing a component of the “Better Care” project, supported by UNICEF, in partnership with the Regional Child Services and Regional Social Services Center. Together, we work to ensure every child has a loving family and a safe environment to grow up in.

NGO Responsible Citizens surveyed 1,004 people in Donetsk region to better understand the scale of displacement and current humanitarian needs. Such studies help to plan actions that address the challenges families face every day.
