Responsible Citizens NGO’s Mobile Teams Provide Psychosocial Support to Residents of Sumy and Donetsk Regions
In communities across the Sumy and Donetsk regions, the mobile teams of Responsible Citizens NGO conduct psychosocial support sessions for internally displaced persons and local residents. During these sessions, participants receive psychological support, practical tools for coping with stress, and information about the services available in their communities.
“I came thinking I would just sit quietly for a while and leave. I didn’t want to talk to anyone. But at some point, I realized that, for the first time in a long while, I was listening not to the news, but to people. And they were talking about exactly what I was feeling. After the session, I went home with the feeling that it had become a little easier. Perhaps that was exactly what I had been missing,” says Tetiana from the Sumy region after attending a psychosocial support session led by the mobile team of Responsible Citizens NGO.
War takes away more than just a sense of safety. It gradually narrows people’s social circles, exhausts them, and leaves them alone with their worries. That is why it is important to have a safe space where people can be heard without judgment and find support.
As part of the project, the mobile teams conduct psychosocial support sessions for internally displaced persons and local residents. The topics of the sessions are shaped by the participants’ own needs and requests. Discussions focus on adapting to new life circumstances, emotional exhaustion, raising children during wartime, ways of coping with anxiety, and other challenges that people face every day.
During the sessions, participants also learn about the social, medical, and humanitarian services available in their communities and receive simple techniques they can use every day to support their own psychosocial well-being.
The activities are open to people of all ages. Adults, children, and young people all receive support. Young participants can also attend art therapy activities, make new friends, and develop their leadership and communication skills.
Today, these sessions are already taking place in communities across the Sumy and Donetsk regions, helping people restore not only their inner resilience but also their sense of connection with others.
The activities are implemented as part of the project “Integrated Community Services for Safer Childhood and Household Stability in Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia Regions.” The project is implemented with the support of the Government of the United States of America in cooperation with the Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH).
If you also feel the need for support and would like to attend these activities, please call our hotline: +380 66 567 0016 (Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.).
