Inclusive Education in Action: New Child Support Project Launched in Schools Across Zaporizhzhia Region
In 10 schools across the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the project Inclusive Education and Individual Support for Children is being implemented by Responsible Citizens with the support of Save the Children in Ukraine. Over the next three and a half months, the organization’s team will work with students with special educational needs and disabilities, as well as with the professionals who support their learning and development.
Zaporizhzhia region remains one of the areas where the need for inclusive education support is particularly acute. In the context of war, schools face numerous challenges, including a lack of specialized equipment, limited access to modern educational materials, and insufficient resources to provide high-quality support for children with special educational needs.
As part of the project, schools will receive equipment to support learning and development, while more than 500 students will receive individual learning kits. A dedicated component of the initiative also provides mentoring support for teachers and specialized professionals, including educators, teaching assistants, speech therapists, special education specialists, and inclusive education practitioners. This will help strengthen the capacity of educational institutions to create safe, accessible, and supportive environments for every child.
The project aims to ensure that children with special educational needs have equal access to quality education, essential resources, and professional support, regardless of the circumstances in which their communities live and learn.
“We often speak of access to education as a right. Yet behind that phrase are real children who need specific tools and skilled professionals by their side. This project is designed to make that support tangible, accessible, and available to those who need it most,” said Enrique Menendez, Director of Projects and Programs at Responsible Citizens.
