A new UNICEF project has launched to support children and parents in three frontline communities
In communities that live every day close to the war, children and their parents often face stress, anxiety, and exhaustion. At such moments, it is crucial that timely, accessible, and comprehensive support is available.
From now on, such support will be available within the framework of the UNICEF project “Protection Services for the Most Vulnerable Children and Parents (or Their Caregivers) in Communities of Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia Regions,” implemented by the NGO Responsible Citizens with financial support from the Government of the United States of America and UNICEF Ukraine.
Families will be able to receive:
• psychosocial support — individual consultations, group sessions, play and recreational activities;
• case management — assessment of family needs and support in contacting necessary services: medical, social, or legal;
• support for children with disabilities — inclusive spaces, adapted materials, and, if necessary, assistance at home;
• consultations and information sessions on the prevention of and response to gender-based violence, and much more.
Within the project, nine Child-Friendly Spaces will operate in key communities: Kryvyi Rih, Kamianske, Pyatykhatky, Sofiivka, Kramatorsk, and Zaporizhzhia. In addition, 12 mobile teams will visit nearby towns and villages. Specialists will conduct activities in schools, community centers, and outdoor locations. In crisis situations — including after shelling — teams will be able to quickly arrive to provide psychological first aid and support to families.
The programme is also aimed at strengthening the capacity of communities: local specialists will receive training, and services will receive support to improve coordination and joint work with families. This will help not only respond to crisis situations but also ensure long-term support.
Since 2023, the NGO Responsible Citizens has been implementing a large-scale partnership with UNICEF in frontline regions of Ukraine, supporting families with children affected by the war. The new project will become another important point of support for children and their parents during this difficult time.
