More Than 300 Families Receive Comprehensive Support in Kharkiv Region

A total of 319 families with children received comprehensive social case management support in seven communities in Kharkiv region. From October 2025 to July 2026, mobile teams of the NGO “Responsible Citizens” helped families overcome crisis situations and access the social, legal and psychological services they needed.

The team worked in the Rohanska, Balakliiska, Savynska, Kolomatska, Zmiivska, Novopokrovska and Derhachivska communities.

The mobile teams provided support to 319 families raising 336 children. These included families facing difficult life circumstances, internally displaced people, as well as families with children with disabilities or developmental difficulties.

The mobile teams consisted of social workers and psychologists, with lawyers and speech therapists joining the work when needed.

Specialists visited families directly, jointly identified their needs and developed individual plans with specific steps and timelines. Based on these plans, families received the necessary support — from assistance with restoring documents to support in matters related to the protection of children’s rights and situations of domestic violence.

A total of 302 families also received targeted cash assistance. The funds were used to purchase medicines, warm clothing, children’s beds, school supplies and other essential items.

“In frontline communities, trust is built not through a single visit, but through consistency: when a family knows that the team will return and does not have to explain their story all over again each time. This is the essence of case management — continuous support rather than one-time assistance. That is why we continue to use this approach in five frontline regions and see how significantly it is changing the system of support for families with children,” says Enrique Menendez, Director of Projects and Programmes at the NGO “Responsible Citizens”.

Experience from working in communities shows that systematic social case management helps families overcome crisis situations more quickly and remain within their communities rather than entering the institutional care system.

It is this consistent support that makes it possible not only to respond to an individual problem, but also to address a family’s needs comprehensively — from the initial request for assistance to resolving specific issues.
