Project Details

The NGO “Responsible Citizens” project with the Government of the Faroe Islands

The project is aimed at overcoming the educational losses of schoolchildren in eastern Ukraine who were unable to fully absorb the educational programs. The goal is to reach children who had to change several schools due to relocations, lack of communication, and other objective reasons related to the war.

This project covers children aged 6 to 17, allowing students from the first to the final grade to catch up on the essential subjects.

The program will be implemented in Kryvyi Rih and Marganets, Dnipropetrovsk region. For safety reasons, the classes will be held both offline and online in groups of no more than six children at a time. To address educational gaps and provide additional classes, 40 teachers and educators will be engaged in subjects such as mathematics, Ukrainian and English languages, as well as biology, chemistry, and history for children from the 8th grade.

The project will also include training sessions for educators, aimed at enhancing professional skills in humanitarian situations.

“Our new project is an important part of the comprehensive work we are conducting in the education sector in eastern Ukraine. Understanding the severe consequences for the education system, which have persisted since the pandemic, we see how crucial it is to give children the opportunity not only to catch up on missed lessons but also to provide them with quality knowledge that will give them a solid foundation for further education. We hope that this project will help many children resume their learning process and successfully complete their school education, even under such challenging circumstances,” emphasized Olga Kosse, Head of the Board of the NGO “Responsible Citizens.”

The project is fully funded by the Government of the Faroe Islands and will last for four months.

Key Project Results:

  • Conducted 1,400 educational sessions across various subjects, including mathematics (292), Ukrainian history (300), Ukrainian language (203), and other disciplines.
  • Engaged 420 children in these sessions, including 30 students with disabilities and 86 children with special educational needs.
  • Achieved a 32% improvement in material comprehension (based on diagnostic assessments).
  • Organized training sessions for 40 educators, who are now applying the acquired knowledge to implement modern teaching methodologies in their schools.
  • Signed two memoranda of cooperation with educational institutions in Kryvyi Rih and Marhanets.

A distinctive feature of the project was the introduction of multidisciplinary lessons involving a speech therapist and a special education teacher. This approach enabled students with disabilities not only to grasp educational material but also to receive corrective support during the lessons.

“We believe that every child has the right to quality education, regardless of circumstances. Thanks to the support of our partners, we have created conditions that allow children to learn and grow. Feedback from parents and educators shows that such projects transform families’ lives, enhance children’s ability to succeed in testing, and provide graduates with opportunities to pursue higher education and achieve their dream professions,” said Olga Kosse, Chairperson of the NGO “Responsible Citizens.”

This project was made possible thanks to funding from the Government of the Faroe Islands and the support of local communities. Together, we are building a future where every child has a chance to realize their potential.
