Helping safely: a new level of humanitarian responsibility
Genuine motivation is only the first step. Real responsibility begins with understanding how to provide assistance in a way that is safe — for children, for families, and for everyone involved
This was the focus of the Safeguarding training attended by representatives of Responsible Citizens NGO, supported by UNICEF Ukraine.
🔹 Over several days of intensive learning, we:
Gained a deep understanding of risks, including hidden ones that are often overlooked.
Acquired tools for developing internal safeguarding policies that are practical and actionable.
Learned communication practices to help speak openly about sensitive issues without fear.
And most importantly — trained our own facilitators, ready to share this knowledge with other teams across Ukraine.
For us, safeguarding is not a formality. It’s about people, dignity, and trust — trust that is earned through action, not just words.
We sincerely thank UNICEF Ukraine for their systemic approach, expert facilitation, and a partnership that empowers us to not only improve our methods, but to transform the culture of humanitarian engagement.
"Your efforts for the safety of children deserve the utmost respect," — these words of support are most often heard by families who seek help from our specialists.
The project was implemented with financial support from the Government of Germany through the KfW Development Bank and the UNICEF Office in Ukraine. In partnership with local authorities, social services, and the civic sector, a modern space was created that follows the principles of integrated social services recommended by the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine.

Later, when it became relatively safe in their hometown, the family returned home, despite all the challenges of living in a frontline region.
