Emergency Cash Assistance for People Affected by Shelling in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia Regions
The NGO “Responsible Citizens,” in partnership with Mercy Corps Ukraine, provides emergency cash assistance to residents of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts whose homes were damaged or destroyed as a result of shelling. The support is aimed at rapid response and covering the most urgent needs of affected families.
“In such moments, people are often in a state of confusion and panic. They see their homes damaged and need fast, concrete assistance,” says Kyrylo Maslakhov, Coordinator of the NGO “Responsible Citizens.”
Payments are made based on lists provided by the Cash Working Group. The group also coordinates cooperation with local authorities to ensure timely and effective delivery of assistance.
Over the past month, more than 300 people whose homes were partially or completely destroyed have received cash assistance. On average, it takes about three weeks from registration to the receipt of funds.
Cash support allows families to independently decide how to allocate the assistance — whether for purchasing food and medicines, arranging evacuation, or covering other urgent expenses. This is especially important as the scale of destruction of civilian infrastructure continues to grow, and each family faces its own immediate needs.
The project “Local, Inclusive and Multi-Sectoral Emergency Assistance to War-Affected Population in Ukraine” is implemented by the NGO “Responsible Citizens” in partnership with Mercy Corps Ukraine with financial support from the Government of the United Kingdom. The organization conducts beneficiary registration within the framework of this project.
