Educational dialogue in Zaporizhzhia: safety, equality, and partnerships
The regional coordinator of NGO Responsible Citizens, Alla Maslakhova, took part in an important event organized by UNICEF, which brought together educators, representatives of education departments, school directors, social workers, parents, children, and UNICEF partners.
The event was held in the format of an open dialogue — a space where every voice mattered.
Two group discussions took place during the event:
1️⃣ In-person or remote learning — pros, cons, and experience.
Children clearly expressed their need for choice: the opportunity to study remotely in difficult conditions and to return to offline learning for live communication and socialization.
Participants also highlighted the importance of safe shelters, technical equipment in schools, and access to modern educational materials.
2️⃣ Challenges of the education system and possible solutions.
Participants emphasized the importance of transparent and effective communication between all parties of the educational process — from children and parents to state institutions and civil society organizations.
A significant part of the discussion focused on humanitarian principles in education — how and why support is provided, who is eligible, and how to access it.
“Children, teachers, parents — each of them faces different challenges, but all of them seek quality education. We saw how important it is to create a space where everyone can be heard and influence decisions. Events like this help shape education that responds to the real needs of the community,” — noted Alla Maslakhova.
Participants appreciated the open and equal atmosphere. Based on the discussions, UNICEF is preparing a set of recommendations that will serve as a practical guide for future educational initiatives.

Ivan's story is about how small actions grow into big dreams. As a schoolboy, he helped displaced people from Donetsk and Luhansk regions—collecting sweet gifts for children, writing motivational notes, and joining volunteer initiatives. Back then, he had no idea that this help would be the beginning of a long journey.
