Completion of soft skills and business skills training: new opportunities for educators and youth
NGO Responsible Citizens, in partnership with Mercy Corps and with financial support from the UK government, has successfully completed a series of training sessions titled “Skills for Successful Implementation: Developing Soft Skills and Business Skills in the Educational Space.”
The program, aimed at educators from Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv regions, sought to equip teachers with tools to develop critical skills in students that are essential in the modern world. A total of 300 educators participated in the training, and they are now applying their newly acquired knowledge in their communities. As a result, around 900 teenagers will receive valuable guidance to shape their professional trajectories.
An Innovative Approach to Career Guidance
One of the program’s key components was professional orientation, which transformed the traditional approach of familiarizing students with educational institutions and specialties. Instead, the focus was on analyzing the modern labor market, in-demand professions, and real career opportunities.
This approach captivated the youth. For instance, teenagers gained new insights into how selecting specific subjects could help them excel in 3D printing engineering or other tech fields. They also learned about real wage disparities, which further motivates them to make informed choices regarding their future professions.
Olena Bieloliptseva, coordinator of the educational program for NGO Responsible Citizens, emphasizes: “We are facing the challenge of creating conditions that allow young people not only to adapt to change but also to stay ahead of it. Developing soft skills and business skills is the foundation of students’ competitiveness in today’s world. Our training helps educators become agents of these changes within their communities. When teachers return and pass on their knowledge to teenagers, we see a tangible impact on shaping a new generation capable of critical thinking, teamwork, and finding their place in the professions of the future.”
The outcomes of this training highlight the importance of investing in educators’ professional development. The sessions became not only a platform for gaining new knowledge but also a tool that transforms how educators work with youth in communities. Teachers are now prepared to further develop relevant topics, particularly professional orientation, which is becoming a cornerstone of quality education.
This project demonstrates how educational initiatives can shape Ukraine’s future, empowering youth to take confident steps toward professional fulfillment in a rapidly changing world.
