Training on the development of family-based care held in Zaporizhzhia
The NGO Responsible Citizens, in partnership with the Zaporizhzhia Regional Center for Social Services, within the UNICEF Ukraine project, conducted training for representatives of social services from communities in the Zaporizhzhia region on the topic of creating and developing family-based care.
Participants gained comprehensive knowledge of the legislative framework and mechanisms for implementing the rights of children in need of guardianship. Discussion of legal norms helped to understand how professionals can effectively protect the interests of the child and ensure stable conditions for their harmonious development.
Special attention was paid to:
- the algorithm of interaction between social work actors;
- information campaigns to engage potential parents and guardians;
- adaptation of children to a new environment and preparation for independent living;
- ethical and professional standards of social work.
The practical part helped consolidate knowledge and see that behind each procedure there is a specific child with their own experiences and dreams. Comparing different forms of care allowed participants to assess their advantages and challenges, while joint work on the concept of “A Home Where Love Lives” demonstrated what a space should be like where a child feels care, safety, and support.
Our experience convinces us: the development of family-based care is an investment in a happy childhood and strong communities. We will continue to systematically work to strengthen this area in eastern Ukraine so that every child has the opportunity to grow up in a family environment.
