Strength in unity: a family’s journey to find support in Zaporizhzhia
In the spring of 2022, Anastasiia and her three children were forced to flee Gulyaypole. After a brief stay with relatives in a village, the family relocated to Zaporizhzhia, where they settled in a student dormitory. The move and separation from their father deeply affected the family’s emotional and social well-being.
Financial support from the EU and UNICEF provided the children with winter clothing, school supplies, medicine, and hygiene products. Free sessions with a psychologist, speech therapist, and art therapist, offered by the NGO “Responsible Citizens,” gave the family the support they desperately needed. These efforts helped the children adapt to their new circumstances, with little Bohdana making remarkable progress in her speech.
“It was a deliberate request from the parents,” says Kateryna Muzycheva, a psychologist at the Child-Friendly Space. “Thanks to the speech therapy, Bohdana began to pronounce complex sounds more clearly. The older children have become calmer, learning to cope with the sound of explosions, and their levels of anxiety and stress have decreased.”
Today, the family feels more confident. The support we provide, together with our partners, gives them the strength to face the future with hope.
