Responsible Citizens NGO — 12 Years
On 10 June 2014, a group of people came together in Donetsk and made a decision to act when help was needed most. This marked the beginning of the story of Responsible Citizens NGO — a story of responsibility, solidarity, and support for people during the most challenging moments.
Over the past 12 years, the scale of our work, the geographical reach of our activities, and the challenges we face have changed. What has remained unchanged is our commitment to people and communities in need of support.
From our first volunteer initiatives in Donetsk, we have grown into one of the largest humanitarian organisations operating in eastern Ukraine. Today, the Responsible Citizens NGO team includes more than 300 professionals working across Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy oblasts.
During this time, we have implemented more than 60 humanitarian projects and provided various forms of assistance to more than one million people affected by war. Together with our partners, we have supported families with children and helped ensure access to cash assistance, child protection services, psychosocial support, educational programmes, social services, and other essential forms of assistance.
Supporting children and families, strengthening communities, building the capacity of local specialists, and creating conditions for long-term recovery and resilience hold a special place in our work.
We are grateful to the communities that trust us and become our partners every day in finding solutions. It is through cooperation with local teams, authorities, social services, educators, volunteers, and active community members that meaningful change becomes possible.
We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to our international partners and donors who have supported us throughout these years and who share our values of responsibility and respect for human dignity.
But our deepest gratitude goes to our team. To the people who have worked and continue to work in communities alongside those who need support. To social workers, psychologists, case managers, educators, child protection specialists, programme staff, logistics, finance and monitoring professionals, and everyone who carries out their work every day with professionalism and responsibility.
For us, 12 years represent more than a journey completed. They represent the trust of people, the strength of partnerships, experience gained in the most difficult circumstances, and a continued commitment to working for those who need support today.
Thank you to everyone who has been and continues to be part of this story.
