How support helps Yulia and her children start a new life
Yulia and her four children were evacuated from the occupied city of Dniprorudne. The forced relocation changed everything— a new city, no job, and an uncertain future. “I mostly try to manage on my own,” Yulia shares. She cannot leave her youngest child unattended, and kindergartens are not operating, making it impossible to return to work for now.
The family received temporary housing and essential humanitarian aid, including clothing vouchers. “This is very important because I am not working, and such expenses are significant for us,” Yulia explains. But material support was not the only crucial factor. The NGO “Responsible Citizens,” in collaboration with UNICEF, organized financial literacy and parenting skills training sessions that helped Yulia adapt to her new reality. “I learned how to properly manage the family budget so that it benefits us,” she says.
Psychological support became another vital step. “The family was scared by the events that took place; they needed support,” says psychologist Olha Horobets. Individual consultations with specialists helped stabilize the emotional state of the entire family. “We started communicating more, paying more attention to each other, and thanks to this, the children’s condition improved significantly,” adds the specialist.
Yulia’s daughters enthusiastically attend art therapy sessions organized by “Responsible Citizens.” “I like drawing, making crafts, talking, and making new friends,” says Ksenia. “Such activities help reduce anxiety, work through fears, and develop creativity and self-confidence,” explains art therapist Olha Kovalenko.
Today, Yulia and her children feel calmer, have support, and the resources needed to gradually rebuild their lives. “It is easier for us now. The children are in a better mood. And we know we are not alone,” Yulia concludes.
The NGO “Responsible Citizens” continues to support families in difficult life circumstances, helping them find stability and new opportunities for the future.
