A Family from Dobropillia: When Help Arrives Just in Time
“War had already reached Dobropillia. We had to make a decision. We evacuated quickly. We needed at least some money…” — recalls Hennadii, a foster father of a family-type children’s home from Donetsk region.
For this large family, it was another major challenge: to find a safe place, start life from scratch, and provide for ten children — all in the midst of constant uncertainty.
At this critical moment, they learned about the program “Local, Inclusive and Comprehensive Emergency Assistance to Conflict-Affected Populations in Ukraine”, implemented by Responsible Citizens NGO in partnership with Mercy Corps and financially supported by the Government of the United Kingdom.
“Our task as an organization was to act quickly and systematically so that the family could receive the funds in time and cover their urgent needs. The assistance was not only material — it also offered moral support,” says project coordinator Kyrylo Maslakhov.
Even in wartime, the family continues to care for their children with warmth and dedication. “I want my children to be happy. Even during the war,” says foster mother Liudmyla.
