Operational aid for those affected in Yarova: 23 households received support
“We came for our pensions and almost died. Who could have known…” — this is how the residents of the Yarova settlement recall the tragedy of September 9, 2025. The settlement, located less than 5 km from the front line, suffered an airstrike on civilian infrastructure. As a result of the attack, 25 people, mostly pensioners, were killed, and another 18 were injured.
The event forced many residents to reconsider their plans and seek safer living conditions. In response to the crisis, the team of the “Responsible Citizens” NGO organized online registration for affected households.
The process was carried out in close coordination with the local authorities to ensure that aid reached precisely those who had lost family members or were affected during the shelling. Due to communication disruptions, emotional distress, and the need to restore documents, the work required particular attention and a sensitive approach.
“We aimed to ensure that all these people were not overlooked. Financial assistance cannot replace the loss or turn back time, but it provides an opportunity to secure medicine, basic necessities, and the first steps towards rebuilding lives. For many, this is a resource that will aid in rehabilitation and settling in a new place after evacuation,” notes the project coordinator, Kyrylo Maslakhov.
Thanks to coordinated and rapid work, 23 households were successfully registered. This case once again underscores the importance of rapid response by humanitarian organizations in front-line communities.
The project is implemented by the “Responsible Citizens” NGO in partnership with Mercy Corps and with the financial support of the Government of the United Kingdom.
