How cash assistance is being delivered in Donetsk communities during the war
Being close to people in critical moments — this is the goal of the project “Localized, Inclusive and Multisectoral Emergency Assistance to War-Affected Populations in Ukraine”, implemented in Donetsk Oblast by the NGO Responsible Citizens, in partnership with Mercy Corps, and with financial support from the UK Government.
The project aims to provide cash assistance to the most vulnerable population groups in frontline communities. Despite challenging conditions — including destroyed infrastructure, communication disruptions, and logistical barriers — the team has achieved tangible results.
✅ Key results (April–June):
✳️ 1,534 households registered for the program
✳️ Cash assistance provided to:
▫️ 437 people in Lyman hromada
▫️ 807 in Mykolaivka
▫️ 783 in Dobropillia
▫️ 592 in Kryvorizhzhia
Each participant received ₴10,800 — a one-time payment covering three months (₴3,600/month).
Priority was given to people at highest risk:
those without housing or in damaged homes, persons with disabilities, elderly people living alone, large families, single parents, pregnant women, individuals with severe chronic illnesses, and unemployed people of pre-retirement age.
The project is being implemented under extremely difficult conditions. Work in frontline areas is always associated with risks, but the strength of the team — responsiveness, mutual support, and partnership with local authorities — has enabled high impact.
⚪️ The project is ongoing.
Payments continue as part of a broader effort to support people whose lives have been deeply affected by the war.
