60% of educators report needing professional development, 80% encounter student stress and anxiety: online survey results
In October 2024, the NGO Responsible Citizens conducted a nationwide survey of Ukrainian educators. This open survey involved 311 education professionals from 13 regions of Ukraine. The study aimed to analyze the challenges that require specialized support and response, as well as to collect educators’ requests to better guide the organization’s future educational project development.
Survey findings indicated that 60% of educators urgently need professional development. In particular, teachers expressed interest in additional informational resources to continuously enhance their expertise. Key areas of focus include strategies for student motivation and psychosocial support for children in crisis situations. Additionally, 80% of educators noted that their students are experiencing heightened stress and anxiety due to the country’s current situation.
Another 65% of participating educators reported feeling emotionally burned out and emphasized the need for psychological support. Furthermore, 55%—or one in every two educators—identified a need for additional educational materials, especially those focused on working with students in challenging psychological conditions. Meanwhile, 40% of teachers reported a need for extra training to improve digital skills and to adopt modern educational technologies.
“Our survey revealed that Ukrainian educators require not only access to up-to-date information but also consistent support to help them cope with today’s unique challenges. Psychosocial support for both students and educators remains a top priority, calling for an even greater focus in this area. Notably, 98% of teachers highlighted the importance of ongoing communication within a professional community that provides comprehensive support,” commented Olena Beloliptseva, Head of Educational Programs at Responsible Citizens.
Collecting feedback and maintaining regular contact with our project beneficiaries is an integral part of Responsible Citizens’ operations. This approach enables us to swiftly gather information on people’s needs for effective project planning.
